History
The Omni Mount Washington Resort has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. The resort’s centerpiece is the historic Mount Washington Hotel, which was constructed in 1902 by industrialist Joseph Stickney.
In 1944, the Bretton Woods Conference was held at the hotel, leading to the establishment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, making the Mount Washington Hotel a historic site of international significance.
According to the hotel, the resort has since undergone numerous renovations and expansions, maintaining its reputation for opulence and attracting visitors with its stunning White Mountains backdrop.

One of the most famous ghostly encounters involves the “Princess.” According to New England Today, some believe that the spirit of Carolyn Stickney, the wife of the hotel’s original owner, Joseph Stickney, is still a presence in the hotel. Guests have reported encountering her Carolyn Stickney, often in the Rose Dining Room, where her favorite table was located, dressed in a white gown. Her presence is generally described as benevolent, and some claim to have smelled the scent of her favorite perfume.
There are also reports of paranormal activity in other areas of the hotel, such as unexplained sounds, cold spots, and items moving on their own. The haunted history of the resort has even been featured on shows like the Travel Channel’s “Ghost Adventures.”
